Strength Training. Part III.

Why Personalized Fitness Coaching Is the Best Investment for Your Health

  • Have you ever struggled to stick with generic online programs or free workout content? It seems great at first, but then something happens that throws it off, or it just looses it’s luster after a couple weeks. The good news is that personalization, accountability, and having a coach in your corner make all the difference!

Why Generic Free Programs Don’t Work:

  • Lack of Customization: Free programs are one-size-fits-all and often fail to consider individual needs, limitations, and goals. What if you don’t have 2 hours to workout or access to a full sized gym? What if you have a low back injury and most of the movements in the program cause you to have more pain? Or you just had a baby and want to get back into things while being understandably sleep deprived!

  • Inconsistent Progress: Without personalized guidance, it’s easy to hit a plateau or not make progress at all. This often causes you to start missing workouts or fall off the wagon altogether, asking the question ‘what’s the point’? Having someone write a workout just for you with attainable ways to progress is extremely motivating. You might even look forward to hitting your workouts for the upcoming week.

  • Injury Risk: Free programs may not focus on proper form or gradual progression, which can increase the risk of injury. Of course no program is totally injury-proof, but having someone with an understanding of how to coach you as a whole person is extremely helpful.

The Advantages of Having a Personal Fitness Coach:

  • Expert Guidance: A good coach will have extensive knowledge as well as real life experience in helping people just like you reach your goals. They can you bring their expertise to the table, ensuring you are following the right plan for their unique goals and not wasting your time. The knowledge you gain about exercise will stick with you long after working with your current coach! You’ll feel more confident on how to train on your own.

  • Motivation and Accountability: You are more likely to stick with your fitness routine when you have someone checking in and offering support. It’s so motivating to celebrate wins with someone else and to have someone to lean on for those tough weeks. A coach can be there to help you break through plateus as well.

  • Affordability: Online fitness coaching can be a fraction of the cost of in-person training, with the added benefit of flexibility -workout anywhere, anytime! Often trainers will offer hybrid options as well if you are local, do a session or two in person and then have them set you up on a plan to do on your own. Packages and subscription tiers also help you to choose what works best for your budget.
